I've insulted my kids so many times calling their bunnies clouds or whatnot. Now I just say "Wow. Tell me about your picture." Goes over much easier on their egos.

I'm so guilty of that, too!My daughter draws detailed pictures of me, repleat with cleavage, a belly ring and a tattoo. Nice. I'm such a bad example.

hysterical - i think we all go thru this with the kids' artwork. it's the classic no win situation!!

*snort* "It's the perfect carrot!" I love it.

LOL, as moms I think we all do that. I now, to be safe, ask them to describe the picture to me. LOL, a ladybug and her cheese? Too cute.

i must say, i tend to refrain from making any guesses on drawings- always better to go with what chantal suggested :)

That is hillarious! I can't count the number of times I've done that! Though, my kids seem to draw some random stuff....like humpback whales peeing on themselves! (honestly, who is raising those kids??)

Let me give you an official Preschool Teacher line....Ready?"Tell me about your drawing" - that way you don't get slammed with the wrong interpretation.

Just so you all don't think I'm clueless, I do normally ask her to tell me about it. Sometimes, I just like to guess for my own amusement. You know, mix things up.
Posted by: Lena | 04/07/2006 at 08:10 PM
Adorable! I've blown it so many times over the years. I've learned not to guess until they give me some hints. ;)

LOL!A ladybug and her cheese. Isn't it just too darn cute what our kids come up with sometimes. Love it.

I'm going to answer "that's your lady bug and her cheese" from now on when someone asks me something I have no answer for...

In the first pic, it appears as though someone (you?) is wearing a very stylish, blue neckbrace. My youngest brother had a drawing stage where everything seemed to look a little phallic to us. Hmmm, must have been a boy thing. My mom saved so many pieces of art work. (You should have seen her basement!) When it came time for me to move out and go through these boxes, I laughed and cried so much. It is one of the best things I did with my Mom :)

Commenting on kids artwork is like taking a risk. If I say what a beautful tree, my daughter tells me it was supposed to be a ballerina. I've started just asking what things are, and what it's a picture of. Just knowing what the theme of the picture is can help with identifying some of the objects.
Posted by: Undercover Angel | 04/09/2006 at 01:00 PM
Hahahaha!!! Oh, too cute and funny! Well, ballerinas ARE pretty skinny. LOL"Your lady bug and her cheese." *heart melting at the cuteness*

"So what do you think it looks like?"That's what I use. And if the picture is that hard to tell, then they shouldn't be offended.

I love when kids draw. They show what they see and sometimes it is not what we expect. I have boxes of Joshua's drawings that some day I will share with his kids.
